Simple. Sustainable. Natural. Healthful. Uncompromised.
Life, as it was meant to be lived, should be described by at least some of these words. And I believe that a healthy lifestyle is something most people would like to take some meaningful steps toward. But we live in the information age, where the lines between information and infomercials are hard to find, and frankly, sometimes it's just easier to drink from the corrupted well of mass media than to make the effort necessary to find and filter out the things that can cause us harm.
So how to start? Find something that 'speaks' to you, then: Change one thing. Or change part of one thing! There is no shame in that! When that new thing becomes a habit, a 'new normal' that no longer requires extra thought or effort, add one more, etc., etc., etc. You are on your way to your goal!
My goal here, for now, is to provide links to information that I have found helpful in my own journey toward a healthier lifestyle, from sources more knowledgeable than myself--which leaves a lot of sources! But also, sources that have not corrupted themselves or compromised their integrity--and that shortens the list some. I also prefer sources that do not stand to benefit from the information they provide--that's harder to achieve, though. My hope is that you will find something useful to you as you decide what, if any, steps you want to take toward something better for yourself and/or your family.
My own journey starts with the Bible, God's Word to mankind, and my relationship with the Lord. Favorite verses and ones I rely on when deciding on new changes are Psalm 32:8, where the Creator God states: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go. I will counsel you with my eye upon you." and Matthew 11:29,30 where Jesus says: "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." I simply cannot change my life overnight, nor do I feel called to. So I ask, and expect, and get, an answer on what the next thing might be that I can work on. If it's too much, then it's either not the right time or not the right thing.
God creates unique people and has unique plans for them. As you make changes in your life, your journey will not look like mine or anyone else's. That's a good thing; because it was never meant to look like anyone's but yours. :)
